First look at box 2 (top middle). It doesn't have any 8's yet. There can only be two cells that can contain an 8 in that box. The possible 8's in box 2 are grey to indicate they are ghost eights.
Now look at box 1. Because of the 8's that already exist in columns 1 and 2 the only column that needs an 8 is column 3.
8's could reside in column 3 in either row 2 or 3 but the ghost 8's we discovered in box 2 eliminate row 2 in box 1 for a possible 8.
Therefore the 8 in box 1 must be in row 3 column 3.
